CTRL 105
St Pancras Development
The CTRL 105 project being undertaken by CORBER (Costain, O'Rourke, Bachy and EMCOR Rail) joint venture is generally regarded as the most complicated series of contracts on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. Impacting on several English Heritage buildings and structures and also involving interfaces with London Underground, Thameslink Trains and Midland main lines, the civil engineering demands were unique. Many milestone dates were met throughout the contract duration including notably the Thameslink Box Construction (prefabricated offsite and delivered to exacting closures) where the target date was scheduled for HM Queen Elizabeth's Royal opening of the new Thameslink Line. Total reinforcement tonnage on this project will be in excess of 40,000 tonnes on completion and the coupler content exceeds 131,000. St Pancras International, when completed circa September 2006 in conjunction with Kings Cross development, will result in the largest passenger interchange in Europe, involving over 50 million passengers per year.
